I tried thumping against the inside and outside of the door to unjamb it. I tried multiple door handle operations inside and outside. I tried spraying WD40 or aerosol liquid lubrication into accesible areas. The lock indicator went up and down electrically/electronically via the actuator but the door would not open. the passenger door seixed and could not be opened by internal or external handle. I had this problem with our 528i E39 1996. Hope this helps, good luck.ĭoor won't open door will not open insside or outsde If the door completely dead locks this is probably the only way that you will get the door to reopen to make repairs. The cost was under $AUD100 plus the cost of a second hand lock mechanism (BMW quoted $800 for the part and time, approximately $AUD1100 all up). I understand that they had to cut and chisel the old mechanism out, destroying it, to release the door. They were able to get the mechanism out without cutting the door frame and replaced the the unit with the second hand one I bought. I purchased a second hand door mechanism and took the car to a smash repair shop as I expected they would know how to get parts apart and have the tools to cut open car parts after an accident. In the end I came to the conclusion that the mechanism was broken and would require replacement. I tried a number of different suggestions as described in various forums however nothing worked. I have a 1994 320i (E36), the drivers door would not open from either the inside or outside it was like the door mechanism was deadlocked. A hassle, but no choice.E36 Drivers Door won't open from Inside or Outside Going to think REAL hard about returning for service in the future, which is not good as it's probably the best dealer in the area, but if I do, I'm taking MANY thorough pictures of my car inside and out upon drop off. While it looks good in the photo, the edge is slightly off at some areas and the texture is not the same, which I'm not happy about, but I feel that the work done was the best that could've been (short of repairman spending even more time) the average person would give it a 100%, but I'd say about 93%. I was very quiet, paused for some time and said $200 and we'll put it behind us, to which he agreed. Anyway, after the SA stated $500, he said he'd split same with me. Long story short, a couple days later SA calls to state that the repairman spent nearly 6 hours over two days on the door and that the dealer's cost was $500 (which it was, as I had spoken with the repairman while he was in the middle of working on my car before I left and that's what he said he quoted my SA - at which point I was taken aback, but knew I was not going to accept such a number form the dealer). That the additional damage was good for my situation, such that more of the area would be repaired / replaced, again BULL). That the material was weak, so this was bound to happen (BULL I've had the car for the past 5 years since new, the material was not weak and there was a line of demarcation between a prior visit and the damage and again now) and 2. Two infuriating things were further said to me, which I responded to with "JUST STOP, I don't want to hear the BS": 1. Did I say I was upset? I came to the dealer with the sentiment that I resigned myself to the fact that if the work was going to be questionable, I'd just live with the original damage, but that was now impossible I was fuming - I walked the parking lot and came back to be able to continue the conversation after how badly I had just flipped, hitting my hand, the car, etc. On top of it, I was told the work would not be guaranteed, but that the repairman was the best there was. I was concerned with the resulting texture, longevity, etc. I understand not intentionally, but WTF.ĭiscussion of the necessary repair was frightening they'd dig out the damaged area and replace with an epoxy and paint. Someone who handled my car within the prior hour did the additional damage, which must have been the same person who did same at first. I was so upset - every other word out of my mouth was a curse - I couldn't control myself. There was additional, identical damage to the area that was even more egregious. I get to the dealer, wait for the repairman, an hour later my service advisor asks me to come out, the moment we open the door, I flip the FCUK out.
